FAQs

We think we have captured the most common questions you might have, but please don't hesitate to contact us at bdgclearance@gmail.com if there's anything else you would like to know.

Can I see the artwork before I buy?
Yes! If you live in Melbourne we are happy to bring single or multiple art works around so that you can see how they look in your space before you commit.

What is the Resale Royalty Scheme?
The Resale Royalty Scheme is a government initiative that provides for a royalty to be paid to Australian artists on the sale of their work, subject to certain criteria. The Australian Government has appointed the Copyright Agency to manage the scheme. We will pay the required royalty to the Copyright Agency for all applicable sales.

How is the art work sourced?
Some Australian contemporary art and much of the Australian indigenous art work was purchased directly from the artist. As BDG specialised in Western and Central Desert art, Director Steve Ralph formed strong relationships with indigenous artists, their families and their communities. Steve travelled to the communities on a regular basis, and also hosted indigenous artists as artists in residence at Blue Door Gallery in South Melbourne. Other work has been purchased from galleries, auction houses and private collectors.

Can you send to locations outside Australia?
Yes we can, just contact us with the catalogue or reference number of the painting you would like to purchase, any instructions such as stretching or framing, and where you would like it sent. We will provide you with a quote on shipping before you complete your purchase.

My painting looks different to the picture online, can I return it?

Our website contains current images of each art work for sale, and can see the paintings in detail by hovering over the image. Further, colours may look different in different light and on different computer screens.

However, we understand that buying online is different to purchasing an art work that you have been able to view personally and we can offer a refund or exchange service.

Refunds
Each of our art works for sale are original one of pieces, and as such may have some imperfections. Indigenous art in particular may have some minor smearing or drops of paint. Please ensure you view the detail of each painting before purchase by hovering over the online image.

However, if the painting isn't as you had expected you can return the art work for a full refund if it is returned to us within 10 business days of your purchase. You will need to cover the cost of postage and handling to return the item (this will be deducted from your refund if necessary), and we do recommend that you insure the art work when sending as it does remain the property of the purchaser until it is safely received by us.

To be eligible for a return, your artwork must be in the same condition that you received it. Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund.

If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within 5 business days.

If you do need to return your purchase, please contact us via bdgclearance@gmail.com to arrange.

Exchanges
If you have received a painting as a gift but it isn't quite to your taste, or doesn't fit in your decor, we are happy to provide you with an exchange to the same value. We are unable to provide part refunds if you exchange for a painting of a lesser value.

Note that you will need to cover the cost of return postage and handling of your work, and sending of the new item. These costs will be deducted from the value of the exchange. If you live in the Melbourne metro area, as an additional service we can bring a number of works to your location for selection. Please contact us at bdgclearance@gmail.com for a quote.

Please contact bdgclearance@gmail.com if you would like to exchange your art work.

Shipping arrangements when returning an item for refund or exchange
When shipping an art work for refund or exchange, we recommend using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance. We don't guarantee that we will receive your returned item.
